In our series of dog-friendly walks, we’re looking at some of Devon’s beautiful countryside slightly further from the River Teign.

Just up the road in Ashburton, we love the River Ashburn trail, with beautiful scenery and an easy terrain, though there are a few fairly easy obstacles, so this route does need you to be pretty mobile.

The Route

Choose between a 2.8km circular trail, for that short trek or add on the out and back section for a 5.5km exploration with your waggy friend…

Why we love it:

It’s a really quiet trail – you don’t see a lot of other people, making it ideal for the more nervous dog who still needs to bound along and get his wags in!

Also… The scenery is spectacular!

Things to consider

When starting any walk in Ashburton, you will need to remember that parking is not always easy. Car parking is available at Kingsbridge Lane and Dolbeare Road.

With steps and uneven ground, this is not a suitable route for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
